Easier read than I expected! A huge cast of characters, some of them even have duplicate names, but it’s actually quite easy to avoid getting mixed up because the kids are constantly talking about their pasts.

Significantly more disturbing than The Hunger Games though because the kids are even more realistically childish, and the novel follows a class of students who already have complex history w each other.

Edition has a lot of supporting texts; I’m only a few pages into the actual story because I stopped when I realized I was more in the mood to read analysis than the text itself. Will return when in the mood. I think I will enjoy this; it reminds me of The Stranger.

I feel like I should enjoy this more, but it’s a bit of a slog to get through.

Far more enjoyable of a read than Villette, although Villette has very much contributed to the lens in which I view Jane Eyre. Villette is almost autobiographical, bitter. It’s a realistic response to the kind of tortured childhood than Jane had. Where Jane is always kind, always understanding, but firm where she needs to be; Lucy Snowe is depressed, surly, and almost impossible to like… but that’s the point.
