"I have known some horses and a good many more pigs who I believe have harbored evil intent in their hearts. I will go further and say all cats are wicked, though often useful. Who has not seen Satan in their sly faces?"

Honestly I'm a bit bored with the romance and I'm about 1/3 into it. Too much oysters and wine. Does it get better?

Some great insights so far.
-When you or your child start to lose control a little bit and raise voices, say, "Let's start over," and say the same thing more respectfully again.
-Always apologize to your child when you have done something wrong.
-Have a 5-faceted review with your spouse each month where you talk about each child and how they are doing physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

"So the second chime of the twice-tolling clock was most definitely a remonstrance. 'What are you doing up?' it was meant to say. 'Were you so profligate with your daylight that you must hunt about for things to do in the dark?'"

Liked this quote: "We have become used to the questionable idea that time spent inside four walls "working" equals education. A child is instinctively fidgeting to get at real life. Why do we think they are learning more because we are talking at them, or because they are writing in our workbooks? The child's instinct is wiser than ours."

I'm highly skeptical of this: "The majority of Americans buy bottled drinking water, even though water runs from the faucets at home for a fraction of the cost, and government quality standards are stricter for tap water than for bottled." Really? And who judges the "quality standards"? I, for one, don't want fluoride in my water.

I agree with much of what the author is saying, but her anti-capitalist beliefs are starting to irritate me.

To eke out the most happiness from an experience, we must -anticipate (before) -savor it (during) -express happiness (during) -recall it (after) Good stuff!

"The well-known notion of anger catharsis is poppycock. There's no evidence for the belief that "letting off steam" is healthy or constructive. In fact, studies show that aggressively expressing anger doesn't relieve anger but amplifies it. On the other hand, not expressing anger often allows it to disappear without leaving ugly traces."-p. 64. I'm liking this idea.
