I keep flipping between thinking this is a 1 star book and a 5 star book. Tired tropes are here but I'm really interested in the magic system. It's still relatively early and I'm interested to see where it goes... And if the author subverts some of the things I fully believe are going to happen.

Interesting premise. Some unique magic ideas. I maybe should have waited so I didn't have another 'school' setting so close to Super Powereds, but here we are. Also, a little darker than I expected. I'm cautiously optimistic, but a little worried that this is another enemies to lovers romantasy. I didn't really look into this one before reading but saw it on some year end lists and loved the cover.

This book hits hard! I know one thing for certain... I'm never making any deals with dragons I happen to summon through a book made of human skin.

What a phenomenal start. I've read several reviews of this and really enjoyed Locke and Key, so my expectations were quite high and they are happily being surpassed. Recency bias, maybe, but this might be my favorite start to a book this year.
