I guess this is a literary device (maybe a meta commentary on the author who can’t help but give the end of a story before he finishes telling it??) but also maybe it’s about how the story isn’t what you think it’s about in the first place? And how you’re supposed to read the other half (a continuation of events pre spoilage) differently?

Eileen Chang is such a goat. Every thing I’ve read of hers I’ve just been like… what, how. No other writer has produced so many repeated hits for me I think. Maybe Ludmilla Petrushevskaya but I have only read that one collection, and of Eileen Chang I’ve read short stories, novels, essays.
