I think if I could pick anyone else's life to live, Edna Buchanan is a really strong choice. It's like the Body Heat dream, only she's also a reporter!!

So far, I am equally enjoying the satire of Venice and very much annoyed by the Privileged White Suffering happening. I came here for fish fucking, not a treatise on why a failed academic understands the universe better than anyone who has ever had a job/suffered real strife!

If anyone ever teaches a course on mansplaining, might I recommend this book as a potential textbook.

My God this is well-written shallowness.

"As all editorial assistants know, it is not acceptable to pick up the phone and deliver a simple 'hello'." I preferred, "This is Halley Sutton, editorial assistant to David Brightman, editor to the higher education stars. Oh hello, Steven Brookfield! Of course you're one of the stars." I'm not even kidding SB was so cool. And seriously David, working for you was the BEST.

Okay so the essay "Publishing and Other Near-Death Experiences" struck a damn chord. Shauna, were you talking to me about this a few years ago? I think so. It hit somewhere between pleasant, beautifully shaded nostalgia of a world that's not really my own and a fucking unholy terror somewhere near PTSD (yes I'm an asshole for using that lightly, let's all move along).

Everything about this book--and I mean, fucking everything, from the cover to the title to even the little half blurbs inside--is embarrassing but you know what? Fuck a duck, Coke Talk has been my sanity the last couple of weeks and the badass assertive bitch I want to be. So I'm buying this book and I'm reading it and that's what's happening.

Oh God, it's happening.
