Already at chapter seven and barely anything has happened since there is so many similes and analogies that barely anything is actually being said. Honestly, if if doesn't settle down and actually get to the story I may give up on it.

She even defaults to calling a married woman Mrs.

Why does she keep correcting people who call her Mrs. to have them call her Ms. I get that's her preference but she's married now and took her husband's names, she might as well get comfortable with a majority of people calling her Mrs. Those who know and care with say Ms. but get over it when it's someone you'll hopefully rarely see.

So, this one is a bit on the rougher side of cozy. Lots of menstruation talk, some occasional swearing and bit more abrasive personalities for main characters than your usual cozy mystery. I'm totally all for freely being able to talk about menstruation just didn't expect it in a cozy mystery.

The further into this book I get the more I feel this cover doesn't truly portray the content of it. Should have a bit more of a Christmas/winter Regency meets modern USA feel.

Am I missing a chapter? Suddenly there are is a Chloe chapter where she's being held captive. Then it was over and back to everyone else.

So, this is a multipoint of view. So far there is 2 points of view. First is Beth, 34 going on 64. Doesn't understand social media, despite pretty much all the social media mentioned having been created when she was in her early 20's (I'm 37 and learned most of them in college). She also refers to the 20 year olds working for her as "the young ones." I keep picturing an elderly woman, not someone younger than me.

Ugh! Bad driving example. You ALWAYS use your turn signal even if there's no one else around. One, you don't for sure you're truly alone on the road and two, don't start a habit of doing illegal driving some of the time. Some of the time results in slip ups when you for sure should be doing it. Don't perpetuate bad behavior unnecessarily.

Yes, some people get allergies in October. I have them all year round and it's different triggers each season. October can be late ragweed or dust kicking from heaters turned for the first time for the season.

The detective is right. She put herself in a potentially dangerous situation that she was explicitly told not to do. She even fibbed about little about what she was doing to her husband showing she knew what she was doing was wrong. This is somewhat on her and she needs to start acknowledging she has zero business being there.

Yes, let's just get our dna and finger prints allover potential evidence after the ex-bf cop specifically asked to not do this because it would compromise any evidence from use in trial.

At least she acknowledges that she's being stupid. I used to really like this series but this one has had some minor continuity issues, the main character seems to have lost some intelligence and is pushing into horror movie category of too stupid to live girl. Not enjoyable. Maybe the audiobook version could salvage it. The usual narrator does so well, I hope they got her again.

So, if you're not familiar with the series the first chapter has basically just been a "previously on"

I'm taking a break from this book. It's just not holding my focus. Too many points of view without a clear switch between them. Also, it took too long to get to the mystery and then has jumped all over that it's been difficult to follow.

I am struggling through this one. I just want to keep saying "oh you poor sheltered, ignorant white folk" constantly in this one. If the reporter character that knows Spanish. She acts like she's never seen inequality or someone who doesn't look like her.

Problem 7 better be the last one and is just further evidence that this festival should have been fully shutdown after the third problem showed up. Still no body though and the cat has really been the only aspect keeping me involved with this story at this point.

Problem 5 and 6 are separate. 6 being the same as 3 but a different group. Still not done though. On to problem 7!

Problem 5 may also be part of problem 6. Same sort of problem as problem 3. Ugh, this is just getting frustrating and annoying rather than entertaining.

Problem 4 solved, tied to problem 2. On to problem 5 and this festival just needs to shut down at this point.

And problem three solved, still no bodies. Also, still not done...what'll be the next problem?

Yup, problem number three now and still no dead body. Dang, I think I would cut my losses and leave this festival if I were a vendor at it.

Another crime stopped already but wait, still not done and still at the same festival. At this point might be best to just shut it all down since there still hasn't been a murder.

I thought it was done...nope, still going but with a newish problem.

Finally Jack seems to be attempting to be less toxic

Ugh, Charlene is so hypocritical. She's all jealous of her boyfriend having once previously loved another woman. Yet, she's not ready to really move on with her love life post 1st husband's passing and free admits to loving a ghost she can't have a full relationship with, who isn't her boyfriend.

Jack is a toxic friend that is keeping her from moving on with her live. She can't have her almost fiancé over to her place because the ghost in her house (who can't have an real romantic relationship with her) would be jealous and therefore can't accept a proposal from her boyfriend either. Sounds like a lot of excuses and a toxic friend.

"Death of a Halloween Night Stalker (Haylee Powell Food & Cocktails Mystery)" doesn't fit as a title. There really isn't a stalker in this one. There also isn't much of a mystery either. This one is more Halloween trapped in a creepy house with a killer during a storm cozy thriller. There isn't anything but how to get out safely to figure out. Almost a third was unrelated Halloween stories and recipes I skipped.

Ugh! I forgot that Lee Hollis puts slightly related but not actually connected to the main story stories at the end of almost every chapter. This story is too short for that nonsense.

"Halloween Night Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery)" has Lucy deep in some serious local political scandal investigating. A teen out trick-or-treating is the victim of a hit and run and Lucy gets involved with the care of his siblings. Leading down a rabbit hole of political corruption similar to what is in real world politics now. It also brings up domestic abuse and the extreme views pushing back at policy currently.

Wow, she sure has it easy that only two weeks after giving birth she's stir crazy, getting the house completely taken care of and herself cleaned up and presentable to the point she wants to work part time. So unrealistic for the average first time mom.
