there are so many characters in this book, 5 chapters in I still have no idea who anyone is ....

when do I get to the part that has female characters

a lot more gothic than initially appeared...

main character is a manchild as you would expect...

'the way we live now' more like 'funny the way all the bad guys turn out to be jewish'

the short and the long of it is that all the men are bastards.

So many feelings - because, so many feelings. I would not be constantly comparing my life / experiences to Hoffman's if we hadn't read the exact same books as children, though.

"you must bear in mind that a large part of the population in other countries does not work. First, almost no women (half of the population) do so" ! More is such a horrible horrible human being.

so much more scary than most modern dystopian fiction - though, at the same time, somehow, a lot duller as well.

Second part so touching, claims that this is about the 'development' of 'gay' 'culture' now seem misleading, it's more about younger generations of 'gay' people trying to find a culture / history for themselves but how it's all quite awkward and complicated and confusing.
