"one or two, of course, would have read Dupont's milestone works in Queer Theory, and perhaps be pleasantly surprised to find he could talk straighforward English when necessary." ! really, how can people not like this book?

Second part so touching, claims that this is about the 'development' of 'gay' 'culture' now seem misleading, it's more about younger generations of 'gay' people trying to find a culture / history for themselves but how it's all quite awkward and complicated and confusing.

Anything would be anticlimatic after the first two parts, but I don't understand people hating on Paul Bryant, he's so awkward I just want to hug him.

Yes, at the end of the second part, Daphne is still the least compelling and / or gay character in the book.

This would be perfect if it had, like, actual female characters. I can see Hollinghurst trying really hard with Daphne, but his efforts are not entirely successful, she comes off as very forced, unrealistic and both emotionless and whiny (very much like Catherine in The Line of Beauty).
