I’m enjoying this book. It’s a woman’s journey of self actualization and creativity. It centers around her donation of her kidney to her husband, and how that event led to transformation. The writer writes with a clear warm voice.

I’m loving this book. If you have read and liked Isherwood and Auden, Spender was a friend of both, then you will enjoy this book. He wrote this in 1947, when he was in his early forties. Some thought it was too young to be writing an autobiography, but it obviously wasn’t. Totally engaging and a great portrait of the times. He wrote a new forward to the book in the 1990’s. Very enjoyable.

Really enjoying this book. If you are interested in what a working writer’s life was like, back in the day way before the internet when typewriters were all, this rather startling and entertaining book will fill the bill. He used a lot of pseudonyms and wrote a lot of pulp. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was an eventful and colorful adventure. Excellent read.
