a halloween read that i’m starting early to desperately feel closer to fall

The author captures real grief in a way I haven’t seen before. Huge fan of this so far.

The rich had better days and freer nights. They brought the sun with them and made the tides move. Pauline was a new model of woman and why couldn’t he have her? Why couldn’t he reach out & claim everything he wanted?”

I only read a few chapters of this before it literally disappeared from my apartment :/
