She is literally married , has been in an active sexual relationship with her husband, and within just a couple hours is ready to sleep with another man. Again , it's as though they're only two people.... Two and a half people in this book. Isla, Grimm and kind of sort of Astra. No other character has prominent agency or is driving the plot forward. Haven't seen Orro in a long hot minute. No Idea what Cleo, Azul, or the starlings are getting up to. It's literally like they stop existing.....

I'm starting on 1.5x speed....

Finished on 1.5 speed...... I just needed it over.....

.... But does it matter if they were never really alive?? Enya feels alive. Orro, Grimm, and Isla by default. But Zed, and the others feel just so one-dimensional, they pop in, serve a singular purpose, and disappear. I don't feel like they're truly a part of the story they don't have plot or agency beyond the one single thing they did for Isla in that moment, and then they are just gone again.

Again, a sign of bad writing, you just killed off a character, and I feel nothing. I once had a theatre teacher say that every character needs to have a life breathed into them. Having a line or 2 does not bring a character to life. You have to breathe into them and make them real. A couple of lines about how the twins look identical and they saved you from a tree. And now one is dead...

Okay now we're gonna have a problem. Cause the boys know something she doesn't know. I can almost guarantee that's the second they actually do something more than heavy petting. Bestie is going to be immediately pregnant. Or some other magical event that is to be avoided. OR there's a prophecy associated with it. Because she has now well and truly been denied at least 10 times across 2 books. So somethings up....

..... Like i'm really not getting it... and now you want to use his feelings to destroy him like that somehow makes you better than him. Also, "change the tide of what war". You haven't even had the first battle!!! Like, seriously, what war??!?!

I think I actually hate this book. Her hatred of grim is so surface level, shallow, teenage nonsense. It feels so manufactured so blown out of proportion, like she has to scream at herself, that she hates him. When so far everything seems quite reasonable. He brought her people to the flower so they could make more medicine, and save people. He gave them resources and opportunities to make peace with their grief....

If you wanted to write a prequel you should have..... "before" LITERALLY every other chapter for the rest of the book.... looks like we're gonna bump it back up to 2x speed since this is literally now 2 books😪

When you want to ACOTOR so bad you just literally just plagiarize entire chapters.....

You could have achieved that with a quality bubble bath and left that poor man alone.

You know, when our favorite YA couples finally got together, after 3, 4, even 5 books, for some of them actually felt meaningful. Listening to a teenager be as just wanton and lonely as she has been, is so cringe. He clearly wants to wait and she is unyielding in her desperation. Like, bestie, do we need some vagina monologs to learn how to like self explore and fulfill our own needs?

I know my other problem with this book. There's no other characters. Just endless Isla and Orro.... i need a cutscene to an action montage. It is so agonizingly dull. Listening to them want to be in love, but want to take it slow. Is this supposed to be yearning? I'm not yearning i'm bored. I want to put this book down and go watch Avatar: the last airbender, and actually get a fight scene. I'm so bored I'm angry...

..... Population growth to sustain your communities and not succumb to inbreeding. And even with all of that, you still state that the children are stolen, so you hide them away to protect them.

.... Like law of large numbers , if you die at twenty-five, there are going to be more children than adults. You would need thousands upon thousands of people to have enough adults or even people that are like 16 to raise the children under age 12. Also, unless you're having 2 or 3 kids, which would be hard if you're only having children between 20 and 25 conservatively... then you're not going to have enough.....

Plot hole #2: if Starlings die at 25, how are we reproducing, raising children, or anything? Because, unless they're having kids at like fifteen years old, there's not enough time to raise the children and teach them anything. Even if they're offsetting and staggering their ages and when they're having kids, at some point twelve and thirteen year olds are going to become the de facto parents.....
