Would make sense for why the bird is all her impulsive thoughts, and...

She's pregnant.... they're going accuse Dax and it's going to be a thing. But it's definitely Jas' and it was likely not consensual, from how they avoid each other. Dax is likely hiding Lirabel in her room to protect her.....

I fear I missed a key detail early on.... do other people know Essie is a spirit in the hawk, or that Roa speaks with her? It doesn't appear so... Dax saying you have to live with out her, but i have to live knowing I took her. Theo searching for a knife to bring her back. They know the hawk is named Essie, didnt they think it odd she name a bird her dead sisters name? But im terrified to look it up and get spoilers.

Either he is the worst person ever and he's been a spy for Jerk the whole time (unlikely, but sometimes authors suck) OR it's a Megara Hercules thing and he doesn't want to, but a lifetime of bad choices have led to this (more likely and deeply sad) OR were about to get his secret identity reveal and he's actually a prince or something to the Skrall people....
