Well, so far the only interesting thing that’s happened is Jake has met a girl whose history is scarily similar to the story he’s stolen and at the same time he’s started getting emails from someone who knows he stole it.

I don’t love the story or the characters but I’m curious how Wendy will resolve her relationship with her daughter. Took concentration to figure out which character was which while listening. Sort of an old people version of the Secaucus Seven.

I don’t like the device of making trees, animals, and insects characters. Some of the information communicated that way was interesting but giving them voice is just annoying.p to me.

Really long and tedious. The author has a terrible reading voice and style.

Grizzly murder, described in detail. Just awful as a way to start.

Not in love with this one. The first series I read by here was more entertaining and involved.

A good idea but not well executed. Lots of storytelling about the time a place that will probably come together to make sense at some point, but it seems clumsy, to me.

3/4 of the way through this story and I’m not actually sure I know what it’s about. The characters are odd.

Endless loss. Portraying India as the land of boundless grief. Good writing, interesting story and characters, but everyone dies or is permanently scarred and damaged. The caste system, the British impact on the culture, the struggle to overcome the handicaps of being born into a land of petty egos and superstition, it’s all here. But I don’t know if I can take any more.

The story has merit but I’m struggling to tolerate the tedious reflections on life, writing, myths, of the Victorian characters. The letters may do me in. I want to throw up.

Recommended by Steph. Audio version is subpar. The reader inserts a lot of her own attitudes.

The first 1/3 was ok, then it got dull. Simon's story was predictable but he and his friends were fairly sympathetic and interesting characters. Clara’s story was not interesting and the character development in that section was limited. Did she have some sort of condition, mental or physical? Who knows? No insights into much of anything except a few attempts at the meaning of life. Or death?

Horrible. So overwritten. Forced. The worst Kingsolver book I’ve read, by miles. Some were soso. This is just bad.

I’m not a gamer but thought that would make it interesting. I’m halfway through and haven’t learned much yet about gaming. I just don’t think there’s much there, there. The book is tedious and boring, but not because of the gaming. The characters seem flat to me. And that professor, Dov(? I’m listening, not sure of spelling) was creepy. The seesaw between past and present stories is getting old.

Ugh. Who recommends this tripe enough to make it popular? This has some useful things in it but it’s preachy, full of virtue signaling, replete with self help ideas, with characters that are uninteresting and not deep.

The story is pretty good but the punctuation and writing style are distracting and detract from the story. And chapter 4 goes on and on and on. Like too many modern book, this desperately cried out for a good editor.
