So far this is more banal than Tom Lake which was probably only appealing because Meryl Streep read it. The characters barely make sense. Who takes a child on a twisty, icy road at night with the headlights off to look at dead raspberry vines and stars and eat cold chicken tenders? Absurd premise. What happened to Ann Patchett???
