What in the Cold Comfort Farm meets Wuthering Heights is going on here? Also, I'm getting tired of Brisbane's emo elusiveness with poor Julia. When it comes to their relationship, someone needs to tell her "if he wanted to, he would." In a nutshell, I'm loving this. 😂 I didn't mean to read book 3 already, but I'm not really in the mood for anything else. I need some kind of relationship closure for these two.

Just realizing that this series is about Poppy's Aunt Julia from Night of a Thousand Stars. The memoirs that Poppy reads at her father's house are these books. Such a fun connection!

Carrying right on with the next book in this series. I can't resist a cold, starchy duke (or viscount in this case) who is de-starched by love. 😂

The first chapter is one of the funniest things I’ve read in a while. I’m hooked! Hope it continues to be good.

I feel sorry for the heroine, but pretty much hate everyone else in this book. 😂

I always think of Balogh's books as gentle romances about good people, but this story's setup is surprisingly tawdry! I almost DNF'd after chapter 1, but I just keep going because I want to see if she can pull off a romance that starts in such an icky place. It takes a particularly talented author like P. Gaffney (e.g. To Have and to Hold) or Sherry Thomas to do so, and I'm not sure MB is at that skill level. ;)

The last two novels I read were either inspired by or had strong references to The Count of Monte Cristo, so I think I'm going to need to read that book soon. All gazillion pages of it.

The angst in this book is killing me, and there's still so much more to go! (Life lesson: Don't impulsively marry someone you hardly know and then fall in love with his brother. It will be a big mess. 😂) Penelope Williamson really knows how to twist the knife for her characters (and readers), and to be honest I love that about her.
