Struggling with this one

Jack and Jill went down the hill. Gray and I ran after.

So I threw back my head and howled. He didn’t notice, and it didn’t matter that he didn’t notice. It’s a good thing to do when you’re frustrated

“Stiff upper lip, friend.”
“That’s how I smile,” I said.

Overhead, growing in strength, the older, wiser moon paced me. I’d give her a run for her silver.

“Well-met,” Jack said then, through the teeth of his grin, and he continued to walk straight ahead.

“Indeed. Cat. Down. Now. Come. Now. With me.”

“I found a big patch of catnip on my way to the river. If we both get through this, I’ll buy you a drink.”

"I was bushed by evening and returned home to nap and eat, leaving the corpse in a copse. I wasn’t even halfway there yet."

“What about that Talbot fellow?”
“So far as I can tell, Larry Talbot doesn’t have a nonvegetable companion. He can take care of himself, I think.”

October 12
Slow day.

It was the Great Detective and his companion who had spoken, of course.
“Here’s a good fellow,” he said. “Good dog. Good dog.”

It could well be that our mere progress through October
was in itself sufficient to produce anxiety

“We traded. A list of the players for the location of the Count’s grave. He said it was in the cemetery to a ruined church to the southeast.
Showed me the place.”

“You’re not really very bright,” I said.
The Peke gave me the paw as I departed, and it’s hard to turn your leg that way.

“Graymalk,” I said. “Sleeping?”
“Never wholly,” came the reply. “Catnappery is useful. What are you after, Snuff?”

“You ask me to give something away. But yes, there is: Quicklime. Beware. His master is mad.”
“Aren’t they all?”

“And so it has begun.”
“It has.”

struggling with this one, it's interesting, yet I don't seem to get anywhere beyond one or two chapters before I've had enough

"A single wellhead sat in the center of things, like the spoke of a wheel". Seriously? Don't you mean 'hub'?

'Lebende koningin', 'Hoora'-- and you were doing so well with your dutch words so far.. Ok, 'klimaat nood didn't make much sense, but at least it was actually dutch.

Neal, Neal, Neal, Hook of Holland is not 'a few kilometres south of the Hague' when you're writing a dutch character. What's more, The Hague is definitely not the capital of the Netherlands. Sorry.

If this book isn't mentioned under 'tunnel vision' in the dictionary it damn well should be :-D

"The report seems a foreshadowing of the evil that had entered the world through a distant city in Germany." Yes, we get it, Walter Sickert is a bad man. If your fiction is this blatantly obvious in announcing the killer, it may not deserve the credit it apparently gets.

Lol, she wants Sickert to be bad so badly, even his father has to be an evil bastard "There were few photographs of him I could find but in one he has a long bushy beard and cold eyes that glint of anger." So far lots of conjecture, zero substance, hope that changes soon
