Being a mom has made books on the Holocaust a million times harder to read. Just a straight up sob fest.

This book is fascinating in such a weird way. Like, I can't stop reading it.

While I can’t say I’ve found this series to be the most enjoyable, I have found it utterly fascinating in that the characters are so unlikeable. It’s like discovering Narnia is real as an adult and then taking what you think the reaction would be to that new and flipping it on its head entirely. So... to sum up, I have to keep reading it.

Almost done. So interesting to read about the daughter who played such a huge role in Thomas Jefferson's successes. I also love that each chapter begins with a section quoted from Jefferson's letters that guides the topic throughout.

Struggling a bit on getting into this one. Hopefully it picks up because I have high hopes for this book!

William Ritter's, Jackaby:

Jackaby hesitated, and when he spoke, his answer had a soft earnestness to it. "Hatun sees a different world than you or I, a far more frightening one, full of far more terrible dangers, and still she chooses to be the hero whom that world needs. . . That the battles are usually in her head does not lessen the bravery of it. The hardest battles always are."

Sooooo good with the words.

"I see that even in my dullness I knew that I was inferior and that other people had something I lacked - something denied me. In my mental blindness, I thought that it was somehow connected with the ability to read and write, and I was sure that if I could get those skills I would automatically have intelligence too.
Even a feeble-minded man wants to be like other men."

Thought provoking topic for my students.
