The first time she compared her sociopathy to the innate sexiness of Jessica rabbit I thought it was sorta weird. The second time she did it I thought it was cringe. The third time….

I cannot help but feel like so much suspense is building while simultaneously… nothing is happening. I cannot be sure what’s going on but I CAN say I’m impressed with this writer.

Whatever small joy I have this book is going to take and destroy

Running it back

This book continues to slowly become better and better. Often, books like these somehow lose their footing. I think writers expand the content to become slightly too broad instead of keeping the focus of the book narrow and relevant. Didion has written something here I feel like I need to pour over and study again and again. She is writing with a voice and a point with razor sharp emotion. This is how you write.

This entire book feels like Dunn is writing what she thinks she should and not what she wants. It’s maddening.
