The reviews have promised an incredibly twisty twist, so I'm going to trust them, but so far I'm super unimpressed. The narrative voices of the girls (and even Matthew) all sound more or less exactly the same. It's only context that provides any difference. And anything that references modern events/items has to be done exceptionally well for me to take it seriously, and Matthew's griping about his Switch is NOT it.

reading this at the ripe old age of 21 is so strange bc the scary-cool college and high schoolers are meant to feel old, and from the Batty/Ben's perspectives, that's how I see them. Then I think about it a little more, and they're like little babies.

This has got to be one of the most difficult books I have ever had to get through, and I've read a LOT of stupid books, books on difficult topics, and poorly written books. This book is written fine. It's just every other page some European historical figure makes a statement or does something that makes me so angry I have to take a lap. Ex. "'We Jews have nothing in common with...the 'Orient,' thank God.'"
