there’s something extremely gratifying about being presented with a collection of evidence that the people you’ve always known were stupid are stupid

i’ve heard the first two sections are the most difficult, which is reassuring because they were pretty hard lol. the title comes from shakespeare (“life is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing”) and the first 75 pages are told from the perspective of benjy, who is mentally disabled. the next 100 or so are told by his neurotic brother.

exactly my kind of book. loving it so far.

i’m reading this modernized edition alongside the original middle english. when i started i was pretty much switching back and forth every other line, but as i’m getting used to the language, i have been able to read whole passages without checking the modernized version. pretty cool. and pretty cool to see the way language has changed in 600 years.
