I found this a difficult read because I didn't like the author's Mr. March. This is the back story of Mr. March, the father of the March girls of Little Women fame. It was distressing to read of the treatment of slaves during the Civil War. I loved getting to "know" Marmee better through his letters as well as the narrative.
