i wanted to reread a temporary matter (the first short story) because it was one of the most moving fiction works i read last year. it deeply struck me with feelings of malaise and intense sadness.

i only got halfway through before i could not keep going this time around. maybe a tragedy is made more tragic when you know definitively how it’s going to end, even if you suspected it the first time around.

i forgot how much understanding and comfort i got from reading this book. it helps me to feel grounded, and maybe even a bit hopeful.
