Reread “Enemies” last night. Damn. Crazy how it violates one of my cardinal rules of short story writing (do NOT explain/summarize the themes for the reader) & can still be one of the greatest things I’ve ever read. Carriage ride scene is gorgeous & effective - Chekhov can wring some beautiful scenes from transit. It occurred to me this is just the evil version of “A Small Good Thing.”

Shout out to Frank Wisner. You did the right thing in 1965.

Really enjoyed Hello. Haven’t read any other Black Mountain poets besides Levertov but can see myself enjoying the bulk of them. Like more mature, less annoying Beat poetry. So There is my favorite poem at the moment.

Just finished Old Morality. Holy shit. Gorgeous.
