Isaiah 57:15
For thus says the One who is high and lifted up,
who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly,
and to revive the heart of the contrite.

It may be possible for each to think too much of his own potential glory hereafter; it is hardly possible for him to think too often or too deeply about that of his neighbor… There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal… Next to the Blessed Sacrament itself, your neighbor is the holiest object presented to your senses. (45-46)

“To please God…to be a real ingredient in the divine happiness…to be loved by God, not merely pitied, but delighted in as an artist delights in his work or a father in a son — it seems impossible, a weight or burden of glory which our thoughts can hardly sustain. But so it is.” (39)

glory means good report w/ God…welcome into the heart of things. The door to which we have been knocking open at last (41)

“The New Testament has lots to say about self denial, but not about self-denial as an end in itself… Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak.”

First time picking up this series that wrecked me in high school. Many, many thoughts.

Just a really beautiful book speaking to treasure that is good literature.

As it has become habit to read to my girls as they fall asleep, I chose this book as my next read aloud. Pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable I’ve found Stevenson’s work so far. It’s a perfect story to read aloud and wonderfully engaging tale.
