This book is so interesting when it's not focusing on the romance or getting info about POTs wrong!!! Genuinely there's a lot of interesting threads here. I'm in this til the end. But ughhhhhh

This premise is essentially wet nurse but make it vampires. Pretty rad tbh. It's definitely a character driven story. I can see why people would critique it for being slow but I'm happily vibing rn.

Not my usual style but 1) I needed something cute and fun after my streak of dark books and 2) I'm aiming for that Camp Netgalley badge babyyyy

I've heard people say that the last third of this book isn't as strong or straight up bad but I'm having a terrible (affectionate) time tbh
His writing style is reminiscent of Stephen Graham Jones. Also, weirdly, Stephen King???

Hard book. Good book. A bit predictable at times but I don't even care. When you write the way that Gus writes I can forgive a lot.

I could maybe forgive this book if the sex was good but it's very much not worth the amount of energy it took to read it. If you're looking for monsterfucking you'll be sorely disappointed.

This book is 500+ pages btw. I stupidly thought that because it's poly maybe it would put those pages to good use. Silly me.

How do you rate a book that you know is terrible but you genuinely like at least one of the characters? How do you rate a book where you go from disengaged to laughing and interested? I can't say I'm locked in or super invested. The smart choice would be to drop the book. And yet here I am. Still reading.

Emily Rath, I'm begging you. Let your FMCs have more flaws! I love a badass woman. That's not my problem. My problem is you're putting way too much into a single character. I get that people are contradictory and multi-faceted. BUT IT STILL NEEDS TO MAKE SENSE.

For a book that was advertised as LGBT and poly, it's been pretty aggressively heterosexual and largely about one dynamic. Like no wonder it's “unrequited instalove” - the wraith isn't around so of course he's the one pining! Sucks to have him sidelined even if plot-wise it makes sense. Definitely understand the people who don't like the wraith (he's very cringe) but for me he's a big reason I haven't DNFed yet.

Well. I was right about the twist but at least there's a little bit more to it? At least it's sorta absurd? It's taken a turn I don't like tho. Whether or not it's a personal preference getting in my way or it's genuinely kinda bad remains to be seen.

If I'm correct about the "twist" then idk how I'm gonna feel. It's SO OBVIOUS I wish it wasn't going in that direction but I can't say it doesn't fit the developing themes. I'm enjoying the camp and gore! Eddie is unapologetically evil. And it's very clear that despite the fact that we got a bad first impression of Poppy, she'll be changing a lot over the course of the night.

I've been beguiled and disgusted by the art. I like that we're dropped into the plot with very little context and have to piece it together. I do have some gripes but I'll hold off on saying more atm.

How many mentions of cheese is too much? Would you say 90? This book is only 350 pages btw.
