okay, listen, eye-roll, i know. whatever. a topic i’m interested in, have 2 years of personal management experience in. because this is the only topic my father will talk to me about, then not explain his thought process and rationale. because i was young girl at a new and different job at this bookstore, after a day of good work and eyeing this, this author walked in & i just had to spend my last 500 on it.

surely this book is translated, cos no native english speaker writes this fierce and has germanic-train-car construction sentences. it’s dense like lispector’s writing. if she was to do more with capturing the ephemeral states of mind, this book’s prose is about building the texture, feel, mood/atmosphere of the imagery.

hate when a book i’ve been avoiding reading is good. clarice lispector, virginia woolfe i thought this was you but this actually stream of consciousness with very specific icy seaside imagery tone and feel. almost gothic, always frosty.

constantly thinking how would make this into a flim

like the epistolary, found-footage metafictional framework. switch from autobiographical to the biographical for the two unsympathetic protagonists evokes pity, humour. don’t you just love it when an author has a juicy wide-ranging vocabulary? words are the meat of this book, entertaining. at 82% the heroine is now depressed? at 95% things are anticlimatic, as expected from the goodreads reviews.

such a pretty book. none of the reviews describe it exactly. man and nature. man’s greed, killing and plundering, it’s vanity. while being the only one in the kingdom capable of feeling mercy! the surreal bit is not the wall, but what humans have created, the past, that anything apart from this state of the narrator was ever the normal. the beautiful work of daily life, relationship with animals. And sweet Lynx.

when i’m not reading i dread this book and i think why am i reading this, and then when i pick it up, within a line—CLING! CLANG!! CLUTTER!!! BADABOOM!!!! lispector reminds me why she’s the goat.

(deliciously) confused. there’s more to what’s just revealed. is this what J+friend feel while reading? i choose books that have no audiobooks. i’ve been reading since I woke up. urgency to work, study, life passing me by, remain. broken up in June, opposite to what i know. june is love, but love is elusive now. good weekend, home with just my father, two recluses. hot summer evenings on the balcony. reading.

i knew something was about to go wrong with the boy as soon as we’d ACTUALLY started reading this together. called it. anyway the book just got interesting. there was mystery surrounding Todd, and not in an intriguing way, just confusing, but now I’m locked in.
