I finally caved and bought this book. I'm interested in it because the rise in people returning to "traditional values and lifestyles" has become increasingly worrisome to me. Often, when there is economic or political strife, certain people turn to this lifestyle to find community or to cope. It's an interesting perspective I'm excited to flesh out—particularly because of the presidency we're under right now.

Is anything gonna happen yet?

I'm like 67% sure I want to DNF this, but some part of me keeps holding out hope that something great is going to happen. We'll see.

Why are there so many similes and repetitive sentences?!?! It is so frustrating😭 Cut those back by 20% and the daunting massiveness of this book will be wayyyyy less overwhelming.

James Baldwin makes every single word matter. Good grief he might be the greatest write of all time.
