part two - i think lee and cathy are my favourite characters to read about so far. both are consistently surprising and neither are what you would expect out of a novel from the 50s.

part one - wow. this reminds me a lot of “the bee sting”; family saga, changing perspectives, morality. so excited to continue

there are so many insane quotes in this, i’m highlighting every other paragraph. like: “The intangible became solid, the visionary was embodied, the private became public: when peace becomes war, when love turns to hatred, something is born into the world, a force of pure mortality. If love is what is held to make us immortal, hatred is the reverse.” ummmm
