This book went missing for a while and we've started another book. Jason just found it. We'll finish the other book, which should take less than 2 weeks, then pick this one up again.

All of page 119: the voyeur and the exhibitionists. both object and subject. the mask of the last resort: wet white concealing sadness and failure.

This is so bad. Like fifth grade reading level bad. I feel like I keep tripping over the extra redundant words, the cliches and immature phrasing, and "easy-peasy-Japaneasy"? Wtf is that? Yipee-yay?

The writing is sort of awful. It really couldn't be any more awful, except that, I guess, it could. I really am hoping the story makes up for the terrible writing. So far it's not enough to distract me from the juvenile writing style.

Ball of wool. I get that.

This woman is obsessed with animals. Is it too much to ask that every word have a purpose? I mean, did we really need the breath-by-breath description of her shooing away flies?

I feel like I'm finally making progress in this book!

I'm on chapter three or so and, I have to say, I am excited about the story. I'm excited that it's good first book, it's been made into a movie, and I enjoyed the Innocent so much! What's killing me is the guy's voice. Ugh it's driving me crazy!!!

I'm finished with round 1 (technically the first of three in this box set) and I might stop here - for now. This no longer qualifies as a trilogy for my 2015 reading challenge so I am recategorizing the book as either the bottom of my to-read, an author I've never read before, or a book I own but have never read. Moving on!

So we get through about a chapter a month... And we didn't even finish this chapter! But Ian fell asleep to it really easily, so that's a plus. Maybe GOT replaces Goodnight Moon from now on?
