Short book but slow progress. Feeling like I already know the stuff he's talking about, like the opposite of imposter syndrome (but I'm still an imposter)

New plan, keep reading, rely on context and only look up very necessary words

Finally cracking this open, having had it on my shelf for several years! Idk why I waited so long, it's very good! I know comparatively little about primates and it's definitely endearing baboons to me.

Costly requirements in religion/sects (rules on diet, donations, marriage) is correlated with longer lasting communes. But is that just because people who are more likely to conform in the first place are going to be more dedicated? If I don't believe in something it doesn't matter whether the cost is £5 or £100, I wouldn't give it. And then there's the sunk cost - even if you stop believing, you've invested so much.

Enjoying this! Easy to read, well explained, and the author has not got anything factually wrong so far (that I am aware of, which at least spares me the annoyance). Intrigued to see if this goes beyond the idea of supernatural surveillance to other motivations of good behaviour.

No, Wilson's at it again!

"It is a naïve rendering of 'turn the other cheek' to think that Christians are instructed to forgive all trespasses." – I mean they very literally are...

"If they did, then there would be no protection against self-seeking behaviours within groups." — there's a big difference between forgiving a person and punishing a behaviour (+ religions should favour reconciliation over punishment)
