This is a weird f*ing book

Oh to proceed or to DNF.. I’m listening at quad speed. I thought I was getting whimsical Arthurian lore with dragon battles and I’m getting a “woke” lecture about environmentalism, capitalism, destruction of the earth, racisms, sexism, I mean.. name a hot topic and it’s been brushed on and thrown in my face.
I read to escape into fantasy or mystery.. not to read about how the world is falling to shit.

Dear God why did book box pick this. 😭 determined to press on to see if there’s character growth.

Oh Noelle, I’m going to keep reading because the story is based on a true story, but 3 chapters in and you’re saying there are no bears in the Frank Church Wilderness. That’s just dumb. It says you live in Idaho … currently .. but you aren’t from here. NO BEARS in the US’s largest forest. 😂 Come on. We have bears all over Idaho.

What I really don’t like about these romantasy fantasy teen/adult fairy smut is the age disparities. Have you met 20yr old these day? No way in HELL could any of them have these deep heart felt convictions. The male is always some ancient gorgeous broody dude and the female always some naive 19-20 with bad ass fighting skills that turns into some world wide hero? I don’t buy it.

Make it make sense.
The house Corbois.. I’m assuming are all cousins and some how related .. and they have a private party for each other and dress as naked as possible? No shirt with chains and leather straps??

The pop culture references are a bit overwhelming. Every paragraph has a name drop, cliche, Instagram, “himbo”. We get it, hip to what’s going on.

Getting a bit repetitive. I get it. He kills you, you want to live.

This is so outdated. Some interesting stuff, it it’s written in 2003. We have about double the number of sociopaths, at least. She’s also wrong. As a psychiatrist you should know that narcissistic personality disorder is sociopathy. There are 3. narcissists, antisocial and Machovelin. The author just keeps saying antisocial. So I dnf. When I feel like I know more .. wait.. am I a sociopath?

The book supposedly starts by taking place in the 60s, but I can’t help feeling it’s more late 70s 80s because it’s exactly how I grew up. Sure he uses movies and dates of things that happened, but things like her saying Gag and suggestive statement on how it played out like a movie, but all I see is an 80s romcom. Did these even exist in the early 70s. But I like it. 1/2 the book in 1 day.

4 chapters in and I already predicted the big secret and the ending.

I can’t not finish. It’s for a book club.. but my gosh it’s not good
