This is a masterclass in reader satisfaction. We all know what's going on, but it's a delight to witness it play out all the same.

Thanks heavens. Nothing rankles like overbearing relatives and getting walked all over by them, especially within one's own home! I generally have a very low tolerance for such plotlines when drawn out, but Titus did an admirable job at holding his own, and was marvelous at dinner speaking his mind. While I wish that cafard de merde had never been let in, gods it's satisfying to see him kicked out!

He made some remarks about dandyism, which Nico ignored like a cat, which is to say, feigned obliviousness with a distinct possibility of claws.

"If you don't, nobody at all is the loser except that jean-foutre Wells, and he can—" Nico finished that sentence with a string of French that probably included a reflexive verb.

It was almost cinematically cliche the way my face took a beat for the line to register, before I let out a guffaw. XD

The Comte made a Gallic noise and pushed him to the door.

Heheheh, I love how "a Gallic noise" is both vague and yet delightfully evocative.

That may be one of the best sentences I've ever read.
It makes me want to dance with claws and moss.

Nenny and I don't look like sisters... not right away. Not the way you can tell with Rachel and Lucy who have the same far popsicle lips like everybody else in their family. But me and Nenny, we are more alike than you would know. Our laughter for example. Not the shy ice cream bells' giggle of Rachel and Lucy's family, but all of a sudden and surprised like a pile of dishes breaking.

Sometimes we can't help but still love those who hurt us. It's a mindfuck, but that makes us human.

I'm reminded again why I love reading queer books. To see to toxic families, found families, accepting families. To see characters who struggle and survive and thrive. To see a mirror of your own pain, how the characters navigate it, and imagine a world without it.
Books and fanfics and roleplay. Stories = community.

Nothing pisses me off quite like characters who don't kick out asshole houseguests. The sheer amount of bullshit they put up with from relatives or some acquaintance. The reaction to be bullied in your own house being, "I refuse to let them bother me." Yeah! By kicking them the fuck out!

Don't like how he calls Xan a mistake. I get the puritanical parallels, but it's not fair to him. I want to read Xan's book already and see him find happiness.

I'm getting a little tired of the descriptions of everyone's trousers and coats and grooming habits. And then the room and the furniture. Just wayyy too much bulk before starting a simple conversation.
