I feel like I'm slugging my way through this one after a high praise of book 1. I think it has the foundation of a 5 star but for some reason I'm already burnt out with this series - but not in a bad way. I think the problem lies in reading chonky books lately..

Ugh... we still get Jonas POV? highly expecting a redemption arc!!

Slowly warming myself up to the characters... hoping the pace will quicken, at the moment it still feels very introductory.

So far we have three POVs and feels like an epic romantasy vibes. Taking a little bit to get into the writing style..

Finally get the book I've wanted to read for a few months after my partner deliberately refuses to choose it! AHA! Take that!

Really struggling with this book. Sometimes it engages me and sometimes I'm thinking about other things and wishing I could do something different with my time. This kind of reminds me of my experience I had with Spark of the Everflame. Hoping book 2 is better...

Starting off like a very generic romantasy so far. I am intrigued by the world building and hope we get some more answers as move further into the book.

Pronunciations have me going back to the front of the book to remind myself how its pronounced. Eesh..

There aint no way that Rebecca Yarros didnt copy this exact scene!!!! AINT. NO. WAY!

I'm all for inspiration but this scene has the same impact and Rosaria Munda doesnt get as much hype! WHY!?

You wanna call out "they broke her sewing hands!?" Call out this scene!

In a little bit of a slump at the moment.. This book deserves my full attention but I can't give it that.

The tension that carries over from the cliffhanger in Book 2. O M G! I couldn't put this down until 100 pages in. Real page turner.

The third POV with Griff makes the stakes and drama that much higher.

First of all.. this cover is gorgeous!

Rereading.. as I started reading book 3 and realised i forgot a lot of this story. So back to the drawing board!

I must say.. Mrs Yarros, did you copy this books ideas for Fourth Wing!? I read chapter 1 and seems like some things are quite similiar. Like how this book has the Fourth Order vs Fourth Wing? Hmmm....

So.. we have more POVs in this book. I really dont like it when we get the POV of the man... but i understand why we are getting more POVs.

Also Orbit, please... You're a massive publishing firm, surely you cant miss a spelling error in our FMC's name 80 pages in. Elspeth not Elsepth.. That's like a red flag in the editing world.

Okay well I was nervous starting this book as I wasn't really getting into it. But 100 pages in im quite invested!

Part 1 complete. My brain hurts. Did I mention to send help? I am hoping, fingers crossed, that the literacy becomes less overwhelming. The little snippets into references is a nice touch. R F Kuang is a genius. This is my first attempt at her books and its pretty heavy. Perhaps I should have started with her Poppy War Trilogy first. I will just blame all this on my partner :)
