I’m always iffy about books that directly reference current culture things by name. It doesn’t age well. And right now this book is feeling too much like marketing for a completely different modern book because the other book is a significant driver to this plot. It doesn’t help me with immersion.

I swear to god, if Maram and Aghraas don't get together, I will throw this book. The sexual tension is off the charts.

The thing that gets me is how Severin never once considered that someone might try to sabotage them. It feels very naive, and that hurts my enjoyment of the book. Then again maybe he’ll pull something out of his ass to show he did anticipate this. Do I want to get my hopes up?

Can someone explain to me why in this worldbuilding, where it’s clear that they were racist against mixed children inheriting any of the white bloodline power, that the more white-passing child was the one passed over because they didn’t want two mixed inheritances. I’m assuming Hypnos and Severin are the same age.

Ok so Zofia is Jewish and autistic. I'm interested, though still cautious. The whole conversation about deciphering the map felt a little forced to me. Currently trying to decipher what the end ships will be because I'm that sort of basic trash.

The Fallen House’s symbol is a six pointed star. I’m adjusting my expectations until proven otherwise. I don’t like when Jewish/Hebrew symbols are used for magic systems because the use of magic is strictly prohibited in the Torah.

Ok so far so good. I’m invested in the characters and the worldbuilding. And I see why people compare it to Six of Crows. I’m here for a good heist with a rag tag found family. However I have no idea what anyone looks like so far and that’s hard on my imagination.

I like the story just fine, though it's taking me a long time to finish it. Problem is I've now discovered the author is, uh, Bad News. But the story is not stale enough for me to DNF. I really want to see the resolution, so I'm stuck seeing this through and side eying the author the entire time.

Prologue done. Yeah so folks aren’t kidding when they say it’s Pokémon meets Avatar: The Last Airbender. Not sure how I feel about it yet but going to keep reading unit I either get bored or annoyed. I hear this has good enemies to lovers, so that will probably determine how invested I get up getting.

The story is so good. It also really hurts because I can *feel* the author's own helplessness leaking through. It's like, of course this is still sci-fi/fantasy, but the crushing despair of losing your rich heritage due to imperialism, which sterilizes everything until it's a husk of its former self, is very current.

Captivating story. Only thing dragging it down in the head hopping POV shifts.

I mean, it's an okay read but I'm bored from the slow pace, and I'm especially bored from all the casual misogyny.

Reminiscent of Bloodraven except easier to get into.

I don't think I've ever read a fantasy novel written like it's a literary novel before, but here we are. And it's working for me.

This is taking me forever and a half to finish. Partly due to me being bored of certain worldbuilding tropes, partly because I just haven't been reading as much lately.

This is super interesting and I'm gonna be upset if the rest of the book doesn't hook me the same way.

Well, I didn't think I'd like this as much as I do. Nothing revolutionary about the plot, but it's written well enough that I kept going past the sample. In spite of touching every omega trope, Arri has a backbone. And despite being a cliche alpha, Dryden doesn't think with his dick. This isn't insta-love either. Unless the ending fails, I like this a lot.
