I like the story just fine, though it's taking me a long time to finish it. Problem is I've now discovered the author is, uh, Bad News. But the story is not stale enough for me to DNF. I really want to see the resolution, so I'm stuck seeing this through and side eying the author the entire time.

Prologue done. Yeah so folks aren’t kidding when they say it’s Pokémon meets Avatar: The Last Airbender. Not sure how I feel about it yet but going to keep reading unit I either get bored or annoyed. I hear this has good enemies to lovers, so that will probably determine how invested I get up getting.

Charley Daveler I always have gone back and forth about the concept, "Death to the Author." There are people, like Woody Allen, whose life choices tend to match and even be promoted in his works. I have a hard time believing that you can separate out what you know about the author from the content that they created. Personally, I find subconscious connects and beliefs in my own works all of the time. That being said, there are so many authors that have beliefs I strongly disagree with, to the point that I wonder if I would be able to read anything at all.

I don't know anything about the writer, but do you think that what caused his poor reputation is visible in the writing?

I don't know the exact details, but apparently the author has bragged about being “woke” and “raised by lesbians in college” while at the same time harassing nearly a dozen women in the industry.

And while the book features a prominent F/F romance arc, I wouldn't know where to start unpacking the author's relationship with women. There hasn't been anything outright skeevy that's stood out.
