This book is a hot mess. PLL vibes with less likable characters.

This reads like a lethal combination of my weak writing students (enough with the I verb statements!) and a hyped up feverish Juliet ODing on Romeo. Calm the heck down, girl.

This woman needs way more buzz. 3/3 outstanding novels.

This is simply beautiful writing.

I am baffled by this GR average on this. Did people actually read it?? I would use this in a craft class!

Also. Charlotte is such an infuriating character who comes across as a needy whiny uptight octogenarian and she’s - what??? - forty seven??

What’s the worst part? The terrible characterization? The constant hand wringing? The ridiculous premise and attempt at drama?

I’m not usually a Russell Banks fan but am very glad I have this one a shot.

Lots of hype but thus far failing to see why.

This is a really beautiful book

Yeesh. Either terrible writing or terrible translation or both. Certainly terrible characters and heavy handed overtones.

I’m enjoying this significantly more than I thought I would.

There are so many things wrong with this book but the dubious choice of first person narrative is perhaps the worst.

I love you, Stewart, but I think we could have left Emily about three books ago.
