As of right now, this feels like an old fashioned (appropriate for the time) romance novel with the rebellious and “different” main character, the rich guy that is mysterious and grumpy and the girl that desperately wants him.
BUT let’s see how everything evolves and what there is the read in between the liens.
You sure get a first impression of society and the neee to marry for young women.

I have to behonest. I didn’t quite understand the situation. Maybe it is nc i picked up the book after a while and forget the connections. However, some vocabulary (shame on me) is not 100% clear and this didn’t allow me to fully analyse this sequence.

Ich glaube mir fehlen ein paar zu viele Informationen aus den Teilen davor. Deswegen komme ich in keinen guten Lesefluss (ich will die “Spoiler” überlesen).

grad gemerkt, dass das der 4. Band ist.

Es wird erstmal die Vergangenheit nacherzählt bevor die Geschichte richtig startet. Diese Vergangenheit von Marla ist sehr wild und man wird ziemlich schnell mit vielen Tatsachen und Umständen beworfen. So langsam zeigt sich aber ein Gesamtbild. Ich komme grade so richtig rein und will das Buch am liebsten nicht weglegen.

Also, I enjoy reading this book. It took me some time to become acquainted to this style of writing/ this book.
The long sentences are fun to read and amusing.
Money (Sir Henry): “It is only people who pay their bills who want that, Uncle George, and I never pay mine.” a real dandy at heart haha
Btw Sir Henry truly is a believer of aesthecism.
