I really have to suspend my disbelief here because a group of attractive men joining a romance reading book club to learn how to win back their wives/gfs is too good to be true, but this is cute so I don't mind lol

I haven't touched this in a year and a half. I think I'm going to have to start over, but you know what? I'm not mad. I have to admire young Jim Theis for his passion and vocabulary. The Eye of Argon, I will return for you.

It really gets me that the only reason Thomas seems "smart" is because everything that happens in this book is as dumb as he is.

Thomas is not at all interesting, clever, or relatable enough to justify how special/important I'm supposed to believe he is. In real life, he would not get bitches.

Every time Thomas survives a brush with death, I am absolutely crushed.

I listened this book years ago and hated it. Making it through to the end was torture.

But then my 10yo watched a Youtube video about the Maze Runner movie and has insisted that we listen to the book together. So here I am once again, forcing myself to listen to this terrible fucking book. My kid loves it so far, though, so at least one of us is happy.

I didn't realize that this is the same author as the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, which I've been meaning to read but have not yet. I'm quite enjoying this book so far, so I think maybe I'll jump of Seven husbands (lol) next, now that I know the writing style.

I'm kind of feeling like this book could have been either a little bit shorter or had more story moments packed into it. I want to know what happens next so I'm going to listen to the next book as well but I feel a little weary knowing it's probably not going to pick up the pace. Still, overall, I'm liking the story. I just wish it was a little more dense, I guess? Idk. Still, it's pretty good!

Not what I expected exactly but no complaints so far. It feels like the book has been all backstory and building up to the conflict so far, which is not a problem for me but might be too slow for someone else. It also reads like a story being told rather than a story being lived, which is also fine for me but may not work for everyone.

I probably won't read the rest of the series unless this book gets really cool in the last third. I don't need a lot of plot progression if I can get into the character development or world-building etc, but... I'm not really digging the relationship progression and the world doesn't seem to have a lot more blocks to add to it, so at this point I'm kind of just reading to get to the end, unfortunately.

I'll finish this book but I'm not sure about finishing the rest of the series. I probably would have considered it when I was at my old job and could spend all day listening to books because it's not a bad book by any means, it's just not quite hitting for me.

I very much appreciate the concept of needing to make trades to use magic, but I really don't think trading memories for memories works in a first person narrative (written in the past tense, especially). It drags me right out of the story. I'm hoping we get a scene where she reclaims her memories so that her being able to tell the reader about things she forgot makes sense.

I'm reading slow and there are two people behind me in line for it! I borrowed the audiobook so I can listen to it while I'm driving and that should help speed things up.

I am so far enjoying this book, but I just want to say that I can't stop picturing the Chasseurs singing "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria" except it's Reid instead of Maria and the problem, it seems, is that he's so horny.

I'm getting pretty sick of Aslan, if I have to be totally honest. Also, the Silver Chair continues to be the dullest book in the entire Chronicles of Narnia.

It's kind of interesting how the books I remembered being boring, forgettable ass when I was a kid reading this are the ones that I find more compelling now. Is it because I do not remember them? Possibly. In any case, definitely getting sick of the moralizing and social commentary.

I'm sad because I loved these books as a kid, but now, as an adult, the Christianity is almost overpowering.
