Im already so in love with this fictional family and am ready to be adopted by them. I love when a book makes you feel “at home”.

I have heard this quote before.. but did not realize it was from here… already so good, convicting, and encouraging.

“The life of faith is lived one day at a time, and it had to be lived — not always looked forward to as though the “real” living were around the next corner. It is today for which we are responsible. God still owns tomorrow.” (pg 31)

When you look up and it’s 2am and you said “one more chapter” at 10pm… I guess that’s when you know it’s good.

CH 19 || This was the most sanctifying chapter to read. It is humbling to consider how we lack embracing the fullness of our identity as God’s children. Jesus modeled this relationship with the Father, and by His grace, we are brought into this family in full blessing—lacking nothing. We are awake— growing in joyful awareness and confidence of what it means to be His, resting in this assurance of adoption.

CH 18 || The Heart of the Gospel

This chapter meditates on how propitiation is at the heart of the Gospel. God’s love is not merely sentimental. We grow in understanding the depths of His Love when we consider the severity of His wrath and the divine initiative taken to relieve us of the punishment of this holy wrath. What grace we are shown through the propitiation of Jesus!

CH 12 || There are several parts in this series that stir my affections or wake me up and this chapter ALWAYS gets me. Puddleglum the faithful.

“But Puddleglum…with his bare foot stamped on the fire…

…the pain itself made Puddleglum's head for a moment perfectly clear and he knew exactly what he really thought. There is nothing like a good shock of pain for dissolving certain kinds of magic.”

CH 17 || Jealousy - a praiseworthy zeal to preserve something precious

God’s jealousy reveals His zeal for His Name, His glory, and His people. Packer lays out where we see God’s jealousy in Scripture- presented as a motive to action, whether in wrath or mercy. He also walks through the history of those who have been zealous in the OT and NT, presenting us with the call to “be zealous and repent” (Rev. 3:19)

CH 16 || This was so helpful in better understanding the integrated working of God’s goodness and His severity.

“The dissociation of God’s goodness and His severity lead to a denial of His omnipotence and Lordship over His world.”

God’s severity is meant to “put thorns in your bed, to awaken you from the sleep of spiritual death—and to make you rise up to seek His mercy.”

CH 15 || This was so good to dwell on—“His wrath is the right and necessary reaction to objective moral evil.”

Packer referred to Romans and the framework in which Paul used to share God’s wrath—in its meaning, revelation, and the deliverance we have from His wrath through the blood of Jesus.

O Lord, teach us to hate sin, to revere You and Your Name, and may this lead to deeper awe, wonder, and praise.

CH 14 ||“If God did not judge, it would display moral indifference.”

Comfort&Conviction || We must see God as the Law & authority. He will judge all according to His character. “As Judge, He is the law, but as Savior He is the Gospel.” We cannot find true hope in the Gospel apart from recognizing God as the Judge who will bring final judgement—where “evil will be disposed of authoritatively & finally.”

CH 13 || Truly amazing grace. The grace of God should lead to awe, wonder, & joy! This comes from an understanding of our total depravity & how we stand condemned before a holy & righteous God in it if ourselves…met with an understanding that we are shown eternal goodness despite our heinous ways. This moves us to gratitude & adoration! O Lord— may we never cease to marvel at what You have done & who You are!
