Does what it says on the cover. Easy to good concise summary.

James Ellroy called this the ‘war and peace of dope-war books’ and I can see why. It is epic, huge in scale, covering many and their families over years. And while the war looms heavy, it is just a fraction of the book. The consequences are always there, but there is a lot of day to day life. Gripping and deserving of the praise.

Great idea, but feels too spread out, bit repetitive.

Read up to variable man. Good but slow to bounce between the short stories.

Beautiful prose but I couldn’t finish before library needed it back. Didn’t suck me on
