This sounds so similar to the other book I listened to by this author. And I have the same gripes. I hope it gets better.

I didn’t get very far when I started this book a while back, so starting over. I absolutely LOVE the tv show, so hoping the book is as good!

It’s throwing me off a little that this book has the same male narrator as the last book I listened to, just because I’m listening back-to back. The voice is so distinctive because he sounds like Sam Elliott. And the female narrator does a voice that’s sounds like Jennifer Coolidge. Anyway, it’s good so far; carry on.

I’m doing a tandem listen/reading of this book. I tried just listening, but I was missing too much information, so I checked out the book from the library to help me keep things straight. It’s very well written and I am enjoying it so far.

Elsie Silver just had her main characters name drop the Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning!! It’s literally one of my favorite series of all time. This book might get 5⭐️ for that alone!

I keep having to rewind and listen again because my mind is wandering. The narrator takes a lot of pauses slowing the story down, and her delivery is kind of dry. They keep referring to the expats by the year they came from, which is confusing. I love the premise of this book, so I hope I can feel more engaged with the story soon.

As an introvert, I appreciate a story with an introverted main character. But it’s starting to feel a little bit “therapy speak” with this much emphasis on it, especially the letter the FMC wrote to the MMC. It just strikes me as the author ticking a box. I hope it eases up a bit.

Definitely not liking the attack on the FMC’s values by the other characters. And both the male and female narrators do not quite fit for the teenage timeline. They sound too old for it.

I probably shouldn’t listen to this while reading the physical book Every Summer After. They both have dual timelines from when they fell in love as teens, then a breakup and then meeting again years later. Too late now; it’s going to get confusing!

Ewww. I don’t like the male narrator’s voice. Doing the deep vocal fry that is supposedly “sexy”. Just makes me roll my eyes. I think I tried listening to this before and quit for this very reason, a long time ago. But TikTok convinced me to listen, so here I am. Again.

Good heavens…what have my ears stumbled upon? Meryl Streep is stupendous as a narrator. The writing is absolutely beautiful. I’ve teared up twice already, with touching scenes. I am impressed.

I actually like Caspia’s chapters more than Odessa’s in the first half of the book. Probably because it took that long before we finally see Ransom. Oh, and whiney Evie.

Who the heck is Caspia? And please let Odessa’s journey with Evie end soon. I can’t stand adult narrators doing child voices. It just sounds whiney and it grates on my nerves.

Mom at the playground with husband and son. Gets called in to work. She’s putting her son in his car seat. Kid is throwing a tantrum, kicks her in the cheek. She tells him to stop it and behave. The stay-at-home dad chastises HIS WIFE. This is why I hate having kid characters in books. Whoever disciplines the kid is portrayed as a monster. And then the adult narrator doing a whiny kid voice? I can’t.
