Das ist wirklich eine große Liebe, eine, die mich noch nie enttäuscht und alles eingelöst hat. Die Liebe zu Büchern. Nicht zur Literatur.
Über Literatur wird in Esszimmern debattiert. Bücher können Literatur sein, aber sind es nicht zwingend. Wir bleiben einander verbunden, die Bücher und ich, alle Häuser und die Mutter musste ich verlassen, immer dabei aber waren Bücher.

Unglaublich, wie viel Gegenwart man aushalten muss, bis sie Erinnerung wird.

Die große Stadt und die Liebe passen deshalb so gut zusammen, weil beide viel versprechen und meist wenig halten. Trotzdem probieren alle es immer wieder. Für so viele gibt es einfach nur die große Stadt als Option, an einem Ort zu leben, der ihnen erlaubt, sie selbst zu sein.

Und er trug braune Cordhosen. Wer könnte da widerstehen? Ich sicher nicht.

Jedes Gefühl muss ich unmittelbar mit einer Freundin teilen. Wie ein Ausstellungsstück reiche ich meine Gefühle weiter, auf dass alle einen Blick drauf erhaschen und ihre Einschätzung dazu abgeben können.

Doch ohne Pathos und Dramatik über die Liebe zu sprechen, zu denken oder gar zu schreiben, liegt mir nicht. Pathos und Liebe gehören zusammen. Pathos und ich gehören zusammen. Mit 14, mit 39, mit 92. Ich habe mal den Satz gelesen, auch Pathos könne Kunst sein, richtig eingesetzt. So wahr.

Jeder findet seinen eigenen Sinn in der ‹Zugabe›. Das Gleiche gilt für die Bücher. Der Leser assoziiert das Geschriebene mit seinem eigenen Leben und zieht etwas sehr Persönliches aus der Lektüre, das vielleicht gar nichts mit der ursprünglichen Absicht des Autors zu tun hat.

Im Großen wie im Kleinen existieren wir in einer Welt, wo sich die Dinge nie so gestalten wie geplant, egal, wie sehr wir uns darum bemühen.

Aus „irgendwann“ war ein „morgen“ geworden.

Maybe tha's what a relationship means, carrying a part of someone around for the rest of your life. I pictured myself elderly and skittish, the ghosts of so many girlfriends past following me around. Lifelong voluntary celibacy seemed like a good option. Unless I didn't get that far. Perhaps whoever they were to me would all crumble away, bit by bit, until I didn't even know I'd forgotten them.

People change though. Maybe when they first met they weren't right for each other but after experience and time, they grew together. I mean some people get married, divorce, and then years later get married again. Anything is possible.
