I'm so excited.

I despised Legend until the very end. 😔

The characters have grown so much throughout the series. Tella is alright, Scarlet is stronger, and Julian has actually become likeable. I'm proud of them. The only person I actually hate is Dante, he just keeps getting worse.

I've put this one off for years and my taste in books has changed since then, I'm a little worried...

"And with every reconstructed line, she understands, Grace Prior wasn't mad. She was lonely and lost, wild and free, desperate and haunted.
And she did everything she could."

She and I align so well, it hurts.

"Free--a small word for such a magnificent thing.
I don't know what it feels like, but I want to find out.
If I gave you my hand, would you take it?
If I ran, would you run with me?"

"Stay with me. Stay with me. I would write the words a thousand times if they'd be strong enough to hold you here."

"That word again--safe. But what is safe? Tombs are safe. Merilance was safe. Safe does not mean happy, does not mean well, does not mean kind."

The two, it turns out, can walk together, hand in hand."

I can't explain how much comfort this book brings me. Julie's thoughts put my feelings into the words I was so desperate to find.

"Why do I always do this to myself? Put so much into things only to have them fall apart?"

"We were two parts of a song. He was the music. And I was the words."

"Questions fill my mind, but I push them aside for now and allow myself to live in this beautiful strange rabbit hole I've fallen into. I don't care how any of this is possible. I have Sam back. I don't want to let him go."

I feel like my life didn't start until I met you. You're the best thing to happen to this small town. To me. I realize it doesn't matter where we're going next, as long as we're together.

"'If I miss another week they won't let me graduate.'
Not to mention I'm behind on all my schoolwork, which keeps piling up. I really need to focus again, and pull myself together, because what else am I supposed to do? The world keeps moving, no matter what happens to you."

"If the ending is this painful, I don't know if this was worth it all."

Marcella Riggins? I'm loving her character.

This is only my second V.E. Schwab book, and she's already becoming one my favorite authors.

'Perhaps she was glass.
But glass is only brittle until it breaks.
Then it's sharp.'


It's already worsening my trust issues lol. I hope she does get to kill that man.

"She does not let herself think of Jacobson or Cody. She does not
remember touching the lake, or the stars above the water. If something
starts to remind her, she shuts it off like slamming a door on that part of her mind.

Repentance. Obedience. She wills herself to be good again."

The way he treats her is triggering. I really hope she is able to run away.

"'Perhaps you might not love me as you love your sailor. But I believe that a marriage can be built on more than that. It can be mutual respect. The decision to share a life together. To support and care for one another. Conversation. Companionship.'"

He couldn't have said it better. This is exactly what I meant when trying to explain it. I really like Simon's character.

"There are always women behind the scenes, pulling the strings, Hazel. We are invisible to history, but we also survive."

"...Give me up, Hazel. Turn me into a good memory. It's what I did with you a long time ago."

This is so painful to read.

"'I can't be with you now, Hazel,' Jack said. 'Because I can't bear to say goodbye to you.'"

She couldn't just let him walk away.
There had to be more. The thought of Jack leaving her life and disappearing again was a dagger, a knife wound, twisting in her heart that no stitches would ever be able to secure."
