There was no objective economic law which determined that primary produce should be worth so little. Indeed, the developed countries sold certain raw materials like timber and wheat at much higher prices than a colony could command. The explanation is that the unequal exchange was forced upon Africa by the political and military supremacy of the colonizers.

Marxist poetry: "... The work of the individual originates in and is backed by the action of society as a whole, and that whatever was achieved by any one leader must have been bounded by historical circumstances and the level of development, which determine the extent to which an individual can first discover, then augment, and then display his potential."

Kautsky's disagreements with the Bolsheviks were not due to personal errors in interpreting Marxism, but his inability to apply Marxism to a revolutionary situation due to a lack of commitment to revolution. "A new strata in Western European society: the imperialist worker elite and their intellectual spokesmen."

on Kautsky's criticism of Bolsheviks, Rodney notes: "the apparent rigidity of his Marxism in interpreting the Russian Revolution is a reflection of the debilitating effect of imperialism n the consciousness of Western European workers."

Resonates with today: Soviet historians and Trotsky suggested that the stupidity of Tsar Nicholas I's government was a reflection of irreconcilable contradictions in the society, which had upset the formerly secure feudal base.

A Pan-African, Non-Aligned Marxist overview of global history is incredibly wholesome.

Soviet historiography is plagued with Eurocentric critiques and I am most excited to read this.

I am extremely fond of Ellen Meiksin Wood and her simple brilliance.

here is a beautiful quote:
"Capitalism, to put it simply, can afford a universal distribution of political goods without endangering its constitutive relations, its coercions and inequities."
