Stream of consciousness narrator talking to her soon the be, but not yet born, baby while she shops for a crib in IKEA, when an earthquake hits.

Very well written with characters who are all a bunch of miserable f—ks, but the story keeps ya going. They all are living disappointing lives and, well, I guess that’s relatable, in a way.

Fun. Lots of sexual tension. Perfect beach book!

I like historical fiction, and this is rooted in a story the author was told by/about the Martels, the family in the story

Loving it so far. Laugh out loud funny in parts.

I had a hard time getting into it, dragged during the chapters James and Brian were incognito in the hospital.
Usually I’ll toss a book if it’s taking me this long to read, but I’m sticking with this one. After being tortured, beaten, and abused for SO long, I need to know if James and Petra get a happily ever after, and if Bryan finds redemption or at least freedom from the guilt of escaping without James.

Only problem is I finished the first book quite awhile before this one came out. Fortunately, by the end of the first few pages, it all came back. (I had forgotten that Cleo calls Sonia “Son.” I was trying to figure out who the heck she was talking to everytime I read “son,” like who the heck is Cleo TALKING to? lol) Finally settling in to read it.

You know what the worst part about one of his books is? It’s not how profoundly he makes you feel what the characters are feeling. It’s not the way he makes you care about them, even though you know there is unfathomable heartbreak ahead.
It’s the way you get to almost the midpoint, and you know you’re going to finish the book, and you will carry it all with you, but you will now have wait for the next one.

It is so beautifully written, I don’t want to put it down, but the subject matter is so heavy on the heart, it’s hard to keep going. But pain and beauty are branches on the same tree, right? And truth. And love. And some kind of redemption.
