While second reading means I was prepared for the behavioural changes in Donut and understand why they are happening, they are still annoying even if I know they are important character development. Did her trauma response have to be so much like nails on a chalkboard?

I think the smut is making the book less good.

Without it, I think this book would be well ahead of the rest of the series.

My main problem with the series continues with this book, the weird fixation on size differences acting as a stand-in for heteronormativity.

Also being annoyed by the fact that Fabian's strongest personality trait is "hates hockey" and that the fact is repeated over and over like the reader will somehow forget.

Otherwise much of the story is an improvement on the earlier books in the series.

The smut to plot ratio really has me wondering just how much they have had to change it to adapt it for TV.

An honest adaptation would have breached broadcast standards.

I had forgotten how problematic this book is, and that the Pathfinder Tales had launched so awkwardly. I think the 2 stars I gave this the first time was pushed up by loyalty to the Pathfinder IP, as the book....
