Loving this. I feel like the first book suffered from prequel syndrome. It was setting up the world so it just kept jumping ahead in time 100s of years at a time so you kind of lost the plot because it was such a high-altitude look at the story. I am happy for that world building now because it set this one up so well

It was easy to stop when my hold on another book was ready. I’m not sure why I keep going with these. I like the Sci Fi world but all of her FMCs are such NLTOG, pick-me, over-the-top invincible with cringy dialogue. Haven’t decided if I will DNF or not

Chloe Liese and these narrators are such a comfort for me. Takes me right back to how I felt reading all the other Bergman books

I’m surprised this has so many verb tense issues being that it’s trad-pub. I can expect it from an independently published book with no professional editor, but I don’t understand how the editor didn’t catch all of these mistakes. The author is using the completely wrong verb tense when describing things that happened in the past.

I’m 65% in and hating the narrator. Delivery is so slow (I put it at 1.5x to sound normal) and she does a really awful caricature of a kind of French accent for a secondary character. Come to find out the Graphic Audio version comes out this Friday. Definitely pausing this for now until I can get my hands on that. Tempted to start the whole book over again with the graphic audio version, honestly.

IDNFing. I’m totally cool with insta-lust and even insta-love when done right, but I have no idea why she is suddenly in love with Mothman. Did I accidentally skip ahead and miss something? He’s in her house and they’ve barely talked but now she loves him. Also I can’t stand the narrator’s use of pitch shifting the audio to represent the male voices. It sounds weird

I might have to DNF the audiobook for now and get to the ebook another time. Not a fan of the female narrator’s male voice or accent

I didn’t realize there was a book before this and that one isn’t available at the library right now. Oh well

I don’t love this narrator but I don’t have enough audiobooks on my tbr this month

Update: not even a romantic subplot, just a brief mention of them being together now in the epilogue

I’m on page 356/376 and the “romantic leads” still only really have a crush on each other. I think it’s safe to say this is fiction with a minor romantic subplot? I don’t even know. The story is nice though, just not a romance

Enjoying it but having to suspend my disbelief a bit. How does a professional photographer with work in galleries and magazines react with “what is it?” when presented with a Nikon 35mm film camera?

Maybe I’m showing my age but what? It’s not some weird obscure thing, it’s just a normal camera

I don’t think I’ll finish before the end of the month (I usually try to) because this book is 484 pages and I am not really hooked yet. I know I’m going to set it aside when more exciting books drop tomorrow.

Said unironically. What? Diane is still on her soapbox with this next installment, and while it’s less annoying as previous books I still can’t help but roll my eyes at stuff like this and the other slut shaming, makeup shaming, food shaming, and not-like-the-other girls stuff.

I would love a shit-ton of solitary uninterrupted free time to just read all the books on my TBR and watch all the movies I haven’t seen.

Wow! A Jessie Mihalik where they bang at 20%! I’m pleasantly surprised. Usually I have to temper my expectations because they never bang until after 90% in her other books lol.

Can they just freaking communicate with each other? There’s so many moments of “I want to say …, but I don’t” or “I wish he would tell me more but he doesn’t” ugghhh

I was intrigued by the idea of a hockey player figure skating so I watched a YouTube video of hockey players trying simple ice skating moves and they all sucked at it even though they’d been skating for 20 years. So I might have to suspend reality for this one.

I put this on temporary pause until I’m done listening to If Only You because they have some minor similarities and I need my current reads to be different enough to keep separate in my head. Hockey player with a bad-boy rep trying to fix his reputation, pro athlete FMC, etc.

Honestly I’m getting bored which is sad because I loved Lizardman and Minotaur and Regine is always an instaread for me when A new book comes out. But there’s just SOOO much expositional dialogue which doesn’t make for interesting world-building in my opinion.

Trying to decide if I should try and finish in March or move on to the hockey book I really want to read.

I couldn’t resist the draw of two of the most amazing audiobook narrators together in one book. Mary Jane Wells and Zachary Webber?! They are both just so so good at what they do. I’m realizing that I probably should have read the first two books first though because apparently a lot of crazy shit happened in the first two books that they keep referencing back to.

I tried this on audiobook but I’m gonna have have to switch back to ebook on this one. I didn’t care for either narrator’s performance so far.

This books wins the award for worst cover ever (those are the twin brothers on the cover; the love interest isn’t even pictured, and the main man in the picture isn’t even a main character, he is the POV MMC’s twin brother) but I am enjoying it

I’m having trouble understanding how they have been on a team together for 4 years hating each other and not passing the puck and this is only now become an issue. How was this not addressed by their coaches at the very first practice their freshman year? Is that going to get explained? They say they were so used to being rivals for so long but now they have been teammates for longer. Doesn’t add up.

I tend to listen to audiobooks while I am doing other things; working, cleaning, cooking, driving, etc. But I feel like I am having trouble following this one if I am trying to do other things while listening. Mary Jane Wells is amazing as always though

Two nights in a row I haven’t been able to put this down and stayed up way too long reading. It’s just so good. I love them so much

So many amazing lines I want to highlight in this book but you can’t highlight an audiobook and my library doesn’t have the ebook 🥲

Sigh, I just want Zachary Webber to read me all the things, please.
