this is so boring, but I’ve come too far to give up on it now

Reading this because 1. I need to read more classics and 2. The 2005 film adaptation of this book is one of my fave sci-fi films of all time

I cannot believe it has taken me this long to pick up a Gillian Flynn book, this is utterly brilliant so far

Garraty is so obsessed with Stebbins, I see who you are boy

the plot for this one is very slow so far, not sure I’m enjoying it as much

enjoying the new POV’s so far !! it’s opened the world up a lot more which is very cool

this is so easy to read and I’m really enjoying the story. I’ve been craving a horror book, so this is perfect

Venn is so incredibly irritating, what an empty character in an otherwise great story

I do wish this had a slightly faster pace, but other than that I’m having a great time with the story and characters !!

this is already phenomenal. Barker is currently the best in the genre at world-building, and this is no exception

As AWESOME as the Cosmere links are I fear it is taking away from the overall plot of this book ?? Maybe I’m just overly confused, but if anyone has read this book can you let me know how you found it (without spoilers as I haven’t finished, obviously)

This being linked to the ONE Cosmere series I haven’t read is devastating. It’s lost a lot of its impact I think because of it….. i wish it was linked to one of the major ones instead

My biggest prediction at the moment is that Wayne is going to die, and I’m really not sure how I feel about that

For the first time in my grand Cosmere reread, we get to a book that I am in fact reading for the first time. When I first read this entire universe, ‘The Lost Metal’ had not been published. I waited, for FOUR YEARS, knowing I would get to it with this reread. My excitement is through the roof !!

this book is so much better than the first two, despite it not being that technically different, and it never fails to shock me. reread rtc !!

Steris’s ability to make Wax actually likeable is truly impressive

The best part about this book is that Steris is finally treated like a central character, and it does in fact make me like this book more than I probably objectively should

I have high hopes that I will actually enjoy rereading this one. It was the only era 2 book I enjoyed last time around, but of course this time I also get to experience The Lost Metal, which in my initial Cosmere read hadn’t been released. Super exciting stuff !!

this is definitely an improvement over Alloy of Law, but it’s still just very average

Halfway-ish through and FINALLY something slightly interesting is happening. This book suffers from major middle-book syndrome, even if it isn’t technically the middle-book anymore after The Lost Metal’s release in 2022.

Another disappointing Goodreads Choice in everything but sci-fi and memoir. The Compound and The House of my Mother were the only truly deserving winners. Onyx Storm winning in two categories was expected but still sad to see - another reason as to why books shouldn’t be in more than one category! The horror winner was probably the worst one - The Lamb and/or Bat Eater should’ve had that win.

I remember next to nothing about this one. If you held a gun to my head and asked me what the plot was for ‘Shadows of Self’, I’d pull the trigger for you. Hopefully it can make more of an impact than ‘meh’ this time around…
