I hate that I can't find it in myself to be mean because the book is certainly earnest and personal. But this is my issue with feminist lit of this kind, since it always tries to appeal to the broad concept of womanhood and apply it to others

This book is personal to me only in a way that it ignites the primordial fear of own artistic incompetence. Advanced lexis desperately trying to obstruct the fact that the text itself is as shallow as a puddle

Wouldn't pick this book on my own since I care neither for retellings nor "takes" on classical stories; have to read it for a college course. Real "I'm 13 and this is deep" vibe. This will not be fun

Listen, I've watched the show. But the way Martin writes certain scenes and interactions is just chef kiss. I've teared up and tensed several times already. ASOIAF has been both criticised and praised to no end, so I don't have much to say beyond that but I am so thankful whenever the book actually makes me FEEL something - sadly, a rare occasion these days

it's quite honestly killing me, though, that one of my favourite scenes is an addition by the showrunners and not a part of the saga (not in this book, specifically). I'm actually already mourning that omission. Other than that, some issues aside, I cannot overstate how much I'm enjoying Martin's style after unsuccessfully approaching Sanderson yet again. I really should give up on giving the latter any more chances

Oh to stop a 12-year-old me from watching the show so I can enjoy the books like it's my first time reading them

Reading this for uni. It's not particularly bad or anything, but the structure does not quite work for me and the book is so keen on listing a bunch of details that don't really contribute to anything
