There's a whole lot of just repeating the same thing over and over again. I really feel like this should have just been a paper, because I don't think the author actually had enough for a whole book.

Do people actually find Philip sexy in this book? God, I hope not. The man is so utterly insufferable I cannot even stand to have him mentioned on the page.

OKAY, BUT THE CHARACTERS CAN GENDER HER CORRECTLY? WHAT THE FUCK, KARIN? What is this supposed to communicate to us, the reader?

*sigh* Do we really have to switch immediately to he/him pronouns for this woman the moment she reveals that she's trans?

Why are Karin Slaughter's standalone books so fucking good? Ughhhh, it makes the Grant County books even more frustrating in comparison.

Literally, how are the characters so fucking awful in the *second* book? Shouldn't they be getting *better* over the series?

How is Jeffrey somehow a worse character in this book, when we're supposed to like him more? Why is Lena still such a horrible person? Are these characters ever going to improve across this series?

I can't tell if I don't like this or if it's just not the right time, so I'mma put it down for a while.

When I put a hold on this book, I didn't realize the linguist author was an annoying "centrist" thinker who has had so much racist dialogue and criticisms of other people of color and their language/culture. This book should still be interesting - I also wrote a rather interesting paper in grad school aboutthe use of swearing that incorporates the mother - but I'll probably pick up a more leftist linguistic book next

Listen, I had no idea what this book was about before I started it, but holy shit. It is mind-blowing that this book was published in 1979 when it could not have more accurately predicted Donald Trump's presidency. For a book centering a psychic, that's pretty eerie.

I am just barely getting into this thing and I'm already feeling like this is going to be my favorite book, maybe of all time. It's pretty wild to feel that strongly about a book so shortly into reading it, but I am so happy I finally started it.

I have definitely heard a number of people say that Night Film and Experimental Film by Gemma Files are basically the exact same book, and i gotta be honest, having just read Experimental Film last month or so, it really does not seem that way at all.
